UW Department of Music to Host Eminent Artists-in-Residence March 24-26

Augusta McKay Lodge, Baroque violin, and Hanneke van Proosdij, harpsichord, are the University of Wyoming’s Department of Music Eminent Artists-in-Residence Sunday-Tuesday, March 24-26.

The duo will give a free public performance titled “Italian Baroque Sonatas” in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 25.

Other public events for the duo’s residency are a master class from 7-9:30 p.m. Sunday, March 24, in the Performing Arts recital hall and a public lecture/workshop titled “Musician Training: How to Make High-Quality Performance Videos” at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, in Room 1016 of the Performing Arts Center.

McKay Lodge, an award-winning, historically informed violinist, has enjoyed a career as a leader and soloist. She has performed regularly as concertmaster with Les Arts Florissants and Les Musiciens de Saint-Julien and recently with Opera Fuoco at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. She also has guest directed the Philharmonia Baroque Chamber Players as a substitute for Richard Egarr.

In the past, she has been concertmaster for Bach Akademie Charlotte, the American Classical Orchestra and Teatro Nuovo.

Van Proosdij is an award-winning music director, conductor, keyboard and recorder player, and composer. She is renowned for the elegance, virtuosity and expressiveness of her playing. As co-director and co-founder of the early music ensemble Voices of Music, she has released more than 420 videos that have attracted more than 120 million views.

Van Proosdij performs regularly as a soloist and continuo music specialist, and she is principal early keyboard player with many national and international orchestras and musicians.

She is a co-founder of the Junior Recorder Society, now in its 23rd year, and she directs, together with Rotem Gilbert, the San Francisco Early Music Society Recorder Workshop. She has recorded more than 100 discs for Magnatune, BIS, Koch, Musica Omnia, Carus, AVIE, Accent and Delos.

Van Proosdij teaches recorder at the University of California-Berkeley and has been a guest professor at Stanford University; Oberlin College; Indiana University Jacobs School of Music; the University of Wisconsin; and the University of Vermont.
