LAKE OAHE (KXNET) — Authorities have been working to identify a body found Sunday along the shoreline of Lake Oahe about three miles north of Beaver Bay.

The Emmons County Sheriff’s Office says around 5:50 p.m., April 7, a group of fishermen came across the body lying on the shoreline. Sheriff’s officers arrived and determined the body was that of an unknown adult male that had likely been in the water for an extended period of time.

Emmons County had no local missing person reports on file at the time, so they contacted the Bismarck Police Department and the Burleigh County Sheriff’s Office to determine if they had any prior reports of missing persons that had not yet been located.

Bismarck Police said they did have one report and that the body could possibly be that of an adult male who had been reported by family members as missing from Bismarck last fall.

The body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Bismarck for an autopsy to try and confirm the identity of the deceased person and a possible cause and time of death.

At this point, authorities have not released any information on whether they have been able to identify the person. Police say no name will be released until notification of next of kin once the person’s identity is confirmed.
