KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The attorney for Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice spoke to reporters on Thursday afternoon about a serious crash that happened in Dallas last Saturday.

Royce West confirmed that Rice was driving a Lamborghini SUV involved in the six-vehicle chain-reaction crash on North Central Expressway. Rice told this to the Dallas Police Department during an interview.

West also said that he has met with police and that Rice and West have met with police in two separate meetings.

“He has fully cooperated with the Dallas Police Department, every question that was asked of him, he responded to,” he said, “we will continue to cooperate with them in terms of this particular accident.”

Dallas police told FOX4 on Thursday that the investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed yet.

Nobody died, but four people were hurt.

“Mr. Rice wants to make certain, understood and appreciated, that he’s going to do everything in his power to bring their life back to as normal as possible in terms of injuries, in terms of property damage, will make certain that he is responsible for helping them to get through that particular part of this.”

West reached out to police as Rice’s counsel on Sunday evening after the crash.

Investigators say a number of people got out of the Lamborghini and Corvette and left the crash scene without providing insurance information or checking to see if anyone was hurt.

West did not answer why Rice left the scene of the accident.

Rice released a statement on social media Wednesday that he was taking “full responsibility” for his role in the crash that happened on a Dallas highway where police say two speeding drivers in a Lamborghini SUV and a Corvette lost control and caused the crash.

TMZ reported earlier this week that Rice owns the Corvette and leases the Lamborghini. While it’s now known Rice was driving the Lamborghini, it’s still unknown who was driving the Corvette.

Local Dallas media questioned West about details of a police report concerning the crash and objects in a bag inside one of the vehicles. West said that investigators told him no report had been filed as of Wednesday.

FOX4 is working to obtain the police report and the details inside.

The next steps for West and Rice include their continued cooperation with investigators and reaching out to the victims of the crash.

“My main focus over these last few days has been to number one, understand as best possible, the facts and I don’t still don’t have all of the facts,” he said.

“Make certain that the police department understood that Rashee was not running from anybody, trying to hide from anyone but wanting to cooperate, which we’ve done. We’ve answered the questions that were asked of us and then make certain also that we prioritize visiting with the families or representatives of the families that were involved in. That’s been our priority.”

West also said that they have reached out to representatives of the victims in the accident. Rice’s attorney also mentioned that he has not spoken with the Chiefs about the incident.

The Texas Senator spent ample time urging people to wait for additional details as the investigation continues and gave a strong defense of Rice’s actions as one mistake.

“You call them spoiled, entitled,” West began about the NFL wide receiver.

“Why don’t you do a story of who he is, as opposed to what occurred? Because it seems as though what you’re saying is based on this one incident, you’re going to define him based on this incident, as opposed to his entire body of work.

“I would say each and every one of you, if all of us had to be defined by one incident, that would be ridiculous, as opposed to our entire body. So I’d ask that you as the media, look at his entire body of work before saying exactly who he is. That will be better.”

“Is he a thug as he has been going around committing murders, rapes, robberies, and things like this? Is he a young man that found himself in this situation? And now needs to figure out exactly how he can balance number one, taking care of the issues associated with the persons that were injured, and also making certain that his whole life is not just turned topsy turvy.”

“Hold your judgment, let the facts come out.”
