On Monday, the Wolves felt like they did not play their best in the Region 11 opener for girls golf.
The defending region champions return a good portion of athletes from last year’s team that went on to finish at he 4A state tournament. On Thursday at Sky Way Golf Course in Tremonton, Green Canyon played much better.
However, Ridgeline once again emerged with the victory. This time the Riverhawks edged the Wolves by just one stroke. In the first outing it was by 10. So the 2024 season is shapping up to be very competitive between the two schools.
Ridgeline carded a 352 as team, which counts the top four scores from an eight-person roster. Green Canyon finished at 353. Rounding out the field was host Bear River (378), Sky View (385), Mountain Crest (435) and Logan (463).
Five Riverhawks finished among the top 10. The top 12 individuals earn points toward all-region accolades at the end of the season.
While five Riverhawks were among the top finishers, a Wolf was the medalist on Thursday. Avery Parker was not happy with her fourth-place finish on Monday and went out Thursday and shot a 78. The senior won by six strokes. Four Green Canyon players were among the top 12.
Naomi Dunker led Ridgeline by finishing second with a round of 84. She was joined by teammates Maddie Fujimoto (fourth with an 86), Paige Wuthrich and Bentley Hansen (tied for sixth with 91s) and Bryn Moore (tied for 10th with a 91). Fujimoto was the medalist on Monday.
Joining Parker in scoring for the Wolves was her twin sister Ally Parker (tied for sixth with a 91), Oliviah Spackman (tied for sixth with a 91) and Jaylee Blotter (12th with a 93).
The Bears were led by Tylee Bennett who fired an 85 to finish third.
Sky View’s Isabelle Mullen tied for 10th with a 92.
Murphie Flippence was the top Mustang with a 103.
The Grizzlies were led by Harper Deal with a score of 110.
The girls are in action next week on back-to-back days at Birch Creek Golf Course in Smithfield. They will play on Monday and Tuesday.
