Northern California forecast and snow totals: Drier and warmer days ahead
Friday made a soggy start to the weekend for much of Northern California, with wet roads and snow flurries depending on where you live.
The good news, according to meteorologist Tamara Berg, is that warmer and drier days are ahead.
Snow kept falling in elevations as low as the 1,500-foot mark early in the morning.
Berg said above 3,000 feet is where the better bands of snow were holding and by the afternoon, snow eased up for the Foothills.
Anywhere between 1-4 inches of snow could fall from Friday through Saturday, depending on what part of the mountain region you live in. Berg said areas like Colfax in Placer County are not expecting any measurable snow, but higher areas such as Truckee could see up to 4 inches.
A look at rain and snow totals so far
As of Friday morning, here are the 24-hour Sierra snow totals.
- Dodge Ridge: 15 inches
- Bear Valley: 10 inches
- Sierra-at-Tahoe: 9 inches
- Sugar Bowl: 8 inches
- Kirkwood: 7 inches
Parts of the region also received a good amount of rain. Stockton got 1.09 inches of rain and Sacramento .87 of an inch.
When will Northern California see spring weather
The good news for people who love warmer weather is that next week appears to have a lot of it on the horizon.
While Saturday and Sunday are forecast to stay in the low-to-mid 60s, Berg said those temperatures will increase. And with the exception of the upper Sierra on Sunday possibly seeing some light snow, the days are also looking drier.
Berg said as the week progresses, temperatures will rise, with the possibility of an 80-degree day.
