Man, 20, is arrested over attempted rape on woman as she walked near Tooting Common

A man has been arrested after reports of an attempted rape of a woman as she walked near Tooting Common.

The woman called police in the early hours of Sunday morning, April 14, to report the incident in south London.

The alleged victim is being supported by specialist officers as police investigate what happened.  

The Met Police said it arrested a 20-year-old male following the report on suspicion of attempted rape and he remains in custody.

Scotland Yard is appealing for witnesses or anyone who might have any information about what happened to get in touch.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: 'An investigation is under way after police received a report of an attempted rape in Tooting.

'Police were called at around 2.50am on Sunday, 14 April after the incident on Tooting Common.

'The woman who reported the incident is being supported by specialist officers.

'A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape and remains in police custody.

'Any witnesses are asked to call police on 101 or 'X' @MetCC and quote CAD931/14Apr.

'You can also provide information anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.'
