A red kite flies against the sky.

On Saturday, April 20, McKell Middle School will be the site of the third annual Kite Day, hosted by Greenup County Tourism.

The day will feature many unique activities, all geared toward family entertainment. Whether you’re interested in hot air balloon rides, kite flying, local food and drinks or socializing on a fantastic spring day, there is something for everyone. All children will receive a free “swag bag” and a kite for attending the event.

Jaime Bloss, Tourism Director for Greenup County, said, “We are thrilled to host Kite Day each year in Greenup County. This event gives area residents a fun-filled event where families can come and enjoy the outdoors, kite flying and so much more.”

The day will begin early (weather permitting) with hot air balloon rides being offered from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. Kites will take to the air at 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. During this time, crafts and kid-friendly activities will be available. There will be a variety of local vendors, including Dragonfly Outdoor Café, Sadie Jane’s Lemonade and Kona Ice. A cotton candy stand, balloon art, face painting and a tie-dye shirt activity will also be offered.

The county will have various departments on-site for education and awareness, such as the Greenup County Ambulance Authority, the Greenup County Fire Department and the Greenup County Health Department.

“Our goal is to bring families outdoors and together to experience Greenup County. We are looking forward to sharing this event with families in and around Greenup County,” Bloss said.

McKell Middle School is at 129 Bulldog Lane, South Shore. For more information, contact Jaime Bloss at jbloss@greenupcountyky.gov.
