KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL)— The Kingsport Public Library is inviting the community to celebrate National Public Library Week. The library will host a week of activities from April 7-13, according to a release from the city.

This year’s theme is “Ready, Set, Library!”

“Next week is the perfect time to think about the essential role libraries, librarians and other workers play in transforming lives and strengthening communities,” said Interim Library Director Casey Applebaum. “And we’ve got plenty of events and activities taking place next week for you and families to check out.”

All activities will be held at the Kingsport Public Library, with the exception of the Solar Eclipse Watch Party. An itinerary for the week is below and was provided by the release:

April 8- Solar Eclipse Watch Party

Solar telescopes, eclipse glasses, science demonstrations and crafts.

  • When: 2-4 p.m.
  • Where: Glen Bruce Park

April 9- Hundred Acre Wood Event

Winne the Pooh-themed crafts and games. Suitable for young children.

  • When: 4-5 p.m.

April 10- Music Play Day

Families of all ages can sing, play and dance with a variety of instruments.

  • When: 4-5 p.m.

April 11- Judge that Book

A fast-paced game of book speed-dating. Suitable for teenagers.

  • When: 4-5 p.m.

April 13- Chill Fiber Crafts

Folks bring current crochet, knit or cross-stitch projects and make like-minded friends.

  • When: 10-11 a.m.

The American Library Association has recognized National Public Library Week since 1958.
