Driver kills kangaroo on Oklahoma highway
A kangaroo was hit and killed by a car in Oklahoma early Wednesday morning, according to the Sequoyah County Sheriff's Office.
A deputy was patrolling north of Roland when he saw a kangaroo jump out of the woods and onto the highway. A passing vehicle hit it, killing the animal.
The driver initially thought he had hit a deer and was shocked to learn it was a kangaroo, according to the sheriff's office.
The video above was not taken by the driver who hit the kangaroo. It was taken by another man who lives in the Liberty area.
A family later claimed the kangaroo's body, saying it had been their pet.
"I'm not sure how it got out of their property, but, you know, it's like a dog," Sheriff Larry Lane. "You know, they get to be part of the family, you know."
The family told 40/29 News they're having a tough time with their loss.
