J.T. Poston made the cut in the Masters for the second straight time in his career last Monday on his way to a career-best finish in the tournament.
Poston narrowly made the cut on Friday after going +5 through the first two rounds. He went to +7 after Saturday’s action before finishing the tournament with a 70 (-2) final round on Sunday.
On Sunday, Poston was two over going into the 13th hole, but then birdied four of his last six holes to move into the five-way tie for 30th. With his Masters performance, Poston moves into 22nd place in the FedEx Cup standings and has earned just over $2.1 million so far this season.
Poston finished tied for 34th in the 2023 Masters and missed the cut in 2020.
Profar redefines relevance
Former Crawdad Jurickson Profar came up with a clutch three-run double in the seventh inning of Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The hit was the game-winning and series-clinching play for the Padres, who took the 6-3 and won two games in the three-game series.

Ironically, Profar’s game-winning heroics came a day after he was called “irrelevant” by Dodgers’ catcher Will Smith. So far this season, Profar is hitting .321 with eight extra-base hits and 13 RBIs.
The shortstop was voted 2011 South Atlantic League MVP in 2011 during his stint with the Crawdads. He played 115 games for the Crawdads that year and nine more in 2015.
DiBenedetto gets 2nd top-20 of year
Hickory resident Matt DiBenedetto took 20th in the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday. It was his third race in the driver’s seat of the Viking Motorsports’ No. 38 NASCAR Xfinity Series car. He is guaranteed at least two more races in that position.
Before last weekend, DiBenedetto finished in 21st at Martinsville on April 6 and 18th at Richmond on March 30. The showings represent the culmination of a long return back into the cockpit after he was dropped from the Craftsman truck Series by Rackley-Wilie Allen Racing three races before the end of the 2023 season.
DiBenedetto will appear for Viking Motorsports again at the Ag-Pro 300 at Talladega on April 20 and the BetRivers 200 at Dover on April 27.
