A principal has been announced for the new Dothan 6th Grade Center. The Dothan City Board of Education named Celeste Adams as the new principal for the center which is set to open August 2024.
Adams has a decade of educational leadership experience. She has served as an Assistant Principal at Dothan Preparatory Academy and Beverlye Magnet School. Before these admin roles, Adams was in the classroom for 16 years teaching for nine years at Susquehanna Township High School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and seven years at former Girard Middle School.
The new principal gained her Bachelors of Arts in English (English Secondary) and a Masters of Education (Reading Specialist) both from Shippensburg University and a Masters of Education in Instructional Leadership from Troy University Dothan.
Adams is ready to collaborate with educators and students. She hopes to cultivate a supportive environment that encourages an atmosphere suitable for effective teaching and learning.

Adams is married to George Adams and is mother to Dorothee Adams.
At the June 13, 2023 Dothan City Board of Education meeting, the Board approved short-term Capital Plans that will go into effect for the 2024-2025 school year which includes the establishment of Dothan 6th Grade Center that will replace the current Girard Intermediate School. The school will house all 6th grade classrooms in the district.
Adams has already started working collaboratively with 6th grade teachers as well as parents of incoming 6th grade students to develop a true school of character that will be beneficial for all incoming students.
The Dothan 6th Grade Center will host a Parent’s Night on April 30 to invite parents of incoming 6th Graders to meet and hear an exclusive update from Principal Adams and discuss the plans for the launch of the new school. Parent’s Night will be held at the Dothan City School Central Office at 1665 Honeysuckle Road, Dothan Alabama 36305 from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM.
