Road closures in St Albans have caused traffic that has been described as "impossible" by motorists.

Victoria Street and Bricket Road are set to experience disruption until at least Monday, November 27, in order to create a sewer connection for a new Morgan Sindall housing development.

Drivers reported heavy traffic on Saturday (November 19) at the Civic Centre car parks.

Kathryn Hurle, who experienced the congestion, said: "Traffic impossible today coming out of the civic centre car parks, together with traffic coming up Bricket Road towards Hatfield Road.

"Massive traffic jams, not a policeman in sight.

"Bricket Road closed, Victoria Road closed.

"(It's a) Big problem."

She continued: "It took 30 minutes to get out of the (Civic Centre) car park and over to Hatfield Road...

"...It will be worse tomorrow with the Christmas festival on, and thereafter with Christmas shoppers at weekends."

When asked about the traffic, a spokesperson for Hertfordshire County Council told the Herts Advertiser: "We’ve permitted the road closures on Victoria Street and Bricket Road to allow a new sewer connection to be installed to Morgan Sindall’s new development site at this location.

"The works are programmed to be completed by Monday 27 November."
