SLIDELL, La. (WGNO) — A Slidell police officer, who was injured in a motorcycle crash on April 15, has been released from a hospital.

At 1 p.m., the officer, Jason Walden, was escorting state and local officials who were viewing weather-related damage in the Slidell area.

Officers report Walden was at the corner of West Howze Beach Road and Rio Street when he reportedly crashed into an unmarked Louisiana State Police vehicle.

Walden suffered moderate injuries, according to Slidell officers, and was taken to a hospital.

On Tuesday, April 16, the police department posted to social media that Walden had been released from the hospital and recovering at home.

They are saying the incident is ” nothing short of a miracle.”

“Jason’s banged up pretty bad, and it will be a while before we see him back in action, BUT he is very determined! There will be a more formal thanks later on, but for now…thank you to those who sprung into action to assist Officer Walden after his crash. You all were godsend,” said the Slidell Police Department.

Louisiana State Police will continue to investigate the crash.
