The Houston Dash has signed 33-year-old Swiss midfielder Ramona Bachmann from Paris Saint-Germain.

She will join the club immediately following the completion of the paperwork.

Bachmann signed a two-year contract extension with PSG in May 2023 which ran through June 2025 but has not been on the French soccer team’s roster since February.

Neither team disclosed Bachmann’s transfer fee.

“I am very excited to join this incredible team and community,” Bachmann said. “I can’t wait to give my all on the field and contribute to a successful journey this season.”

Trabzonspor to play six matches behind closed doors following fan violence

Trabzonspor have been ordered to play six matches behind closed doors by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) as a result of the violence that broke out after their Super Lig loss to Fenerbahce last month.

An investigation was launched by Turkish authorities after Trabzonspor fans entered the pitch and sparked a brawl following their side’s 3-2 defeat.

Fans stormed onto the field at Papara Park, Trabzon, attacking both Fenerbahce players and security personnel. 13 people have since been arrested.

Fenerbahce players Jayden Oosterwolde and Irfan Can Egribayat received one-game bans for engaging in altercations with opposing supporters. Nigerian winger Bright Osayi-Samuel, who tackled one of the pitch invaders, did not face any sanctions.

Trabzonspor's coach Egemen Korkmaz has been banned from the dressing room and dugout for one match due to his involvement in a scuffle with an opposing player.

Trabzonspor have also been fined 3million Turkish lira (£75,000).

Former Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president Luis Rubiales was detained and questioned immediately after landing in Madrid on Wednesday morning, as part of an anti-corruption investigation.

Rubiales, who resigned as RFEF president in September, having been suspended by FIFA over his kiss on Spain forward Jenni Hermoso after the Women’s World Cup final in August, was travelling back from the Dominican Republic.

That is where he was on March 20, when RFEF headquarters in Madrid and Rubiales’ home in Granada were searched as part of an investigation into alleged corruption during his five years in charge from 2018.

Frida Maanum is “stable and doing well” but won’t report for the Norwegian national team as planned after collapsing during the Continental Cup final on Sunday.

The 24-year-old appeared to go down off the ball in second-half stoppage time during the victory over Chelsea.

Medical staff entered the field of play at Molineux and play was stopped for seven minutes while she was attended to, before she left the field on a stretcher while receiving oxygen.

Arsenal revealed a short time later that Maanum was “conscious, talking and in a stable condition”.

Kompany charged with misconduct over penalty protest

Kompany charged with misconduct over penalty protest

The Football Association has charged Vincent Kompany with misconduct following Burnley's Premier League match against Chelsea.

Kompany has until 6pm on Friday to respond to the charge.

The 37-year-old was shown a red card during Burnley's 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge for protesting referee Darren England's decision to award Chelsea a first-half penalty after Lorenz Assignon brought down Mykhailo Mudryk.

Assignon was sent off for his second bookable offence before Blues midfielder Cole Palmer converted the resulting spot kick, prompting angry remonstrations from Kompany.

A statement from the FA said: "It's alleged that the manager's language and/or behaviour around the 40th minute was improper and/or abusive and/or insulting and/or questioned their integrity."

The former Man City and Belgium defender later criticised the standard of officiating in the top flight after Assignon became the sixth Burnley player to be sent off this season, the highest number of any Premier League team.

He said: "I've said it to the referees themselves - refereeing hasn't been good enough this season.

"And I have said that in a constructive way, understanding as well the fact it's not easy for them.

"The scrutiny is massive. The pressure is bigger than it's ever been on the officials.

"The addition of VAR and more opinions and more officials doesn't make it easy for them to do their jobs."

Burnley are currently 19th in the table, six points adrift of safety with seven games of the campaign remaining. They are next in action against fellow strugglers Everton on Saturday.

Jones, Robertson available for Liverpool against Sheff Utd

Jurgen Klopp says Curtis Jones and Andy Robertson are fit to return for Liverpool in Thursday's Premier League clash with Sheffield United at Anfield.

Midfielder Jones hasn't featured since mid-February due to the ankle injury he suffered in the win over Brentford.

Left-back Robertson was hurt playing for Scotland against Northern Ireland last week and missed Sunday's victory over Brighton & Hove Albion with a bruised ankle.

Wataru Endo is, though, a fitness concern ahead of the visit of Chris Wilder's side, while Diogo Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alisson are on course to return to training next week.

“Curtis is in full training and in contention,” says manager Jurgen Klopp. “Curtis was incredibly important (before the injury). He set the tone and played an outstanding season. He looks outstanding in training.

“In an ideal world, he will play 15, 20, 30 minutes, whatever, then they build the body again for all these tough things coming up.

“Robbo is back. Wataru got a knock in the last game so we have to see for tomorrow what we do with him.

“Diogo and Trent are together in a group. It looks like next week they will be in parts of team training and then we will see. Ali looks good. In his mind parts of team training next week as well.”

Long-term absentee Stefan Bajcetic is training with the Under-21s this week and will rejoin the first team next week.

Asked about Liverpool's favourites' tag in the title race, Klopp added: "One of the most important things to get through this period is just to ignore the outside noise.

"We have to be emotional but in the right way — be the best version of ourselves. There are no guarantees, just opportunities.

"I didn't even know that they (Manchester City and Arsenal) play tonight. It's really not my subject. I always expect them to win. We just need to win our football games."

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino says he does not know if forward Christopher Nkunku will play again this season.

The Athletic reported in February that the 26-year-old France international, who has had an injury-hit campaign, would be out for “up to a month” with a new issue.

However, Pochettino is unsure if Nkunku, who joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig last summer in a deal worth €60million (£52.7m, $58.8m), will feature again for the London side this campaign.

Ten Hag hails 'fantastic football player' Mount ahead of Chelsea return

Ten Hag hails 'fantastic football player' Mount ahead of Chelsea return

Erik ten Hag has described Mason Mount as a "fantastic football player" as the midfielder prepares to make his first return to Chelsea since joining Manchester United.

Chelsea academy graduate Mount, 25, joined United last summer in a deal worth up to £60m, but has had his start to life at Old Trafford hampered by injuries.

The midfielder made his return from a calf injury in United's 1-1 draw with Brentford on Saturday, scoring his side's only goal in his first appearance for the club since November.

Mount has only made seven starts for United across all competitions and Ten Hag says he is wary of risking a recurrence of the midfielder's issue amid a spate of other muscle injuries at the club.

Speaking on Wednesday ahead of United's trip to west London, Ten Hag said of Mount: "He's a fantastic football player but it's important first that he is getting and keeping fit because he has had three injuries.

"Like with Licha (Martinez), another injury, you want to avoid and we have to do this carefully. The first objective is to keep him fit, then he can benefit and contribute to the team like he did on Saturday when he had a big impact."

United are sixth in the table going into Thursday night's match at Stamford Bridge, nine points adrift of Aston Villa, who occupy the final Champions League position.

Cameroon FA expresses 'great astonishment' over Brys appointment

The Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) has expressed its “great astonishment” over Marc Brys’ appointment as the men’s national team head coach by the country’s sports ministry.

The 61-year-old Belgian, who previously managed OH Leuven, has been selected to succeed the former Liverpool and West Ham United defender Rigobert Song, whose deal wasn’t renewed following the conclusion of this year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

However, Fecafoot said they were surprised at the appointment of Brys, stating that the decision was made unilaterally.

Man Utd ‘have an idea’ about cause of muscle injuries, says Ten Hag

Erik ten Hag says Manchester United “have an idea” of what is causing their spate of muscle injuries and “will deal with it”.

United were dealt a blow on Tuesday with the news that defenders Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof will be out for a month with respective calf and hamstring issues.

Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Anthony Martial are longer-term absentees, while reserve goalkeeper Altay Bayindir is a doubt ahead of Thursday’s Premier League game at Chelsea.

“We have an idea (about the cause of the muscle injuries) but we will work on it,” Ten Hag said on Wednesday. “Internally, we will deal with it.”

Asked if he would share that idea, Ten Hag replied: “No.”

Varane's comments on head injuries in football 'brave and concerning' – Headway

Varane's comments on head injuries in football 'brave and concerning' – Headway

Brain injury charity Headway says that Raphael Varane's comments were "both brave and concerning", after the Manchester United defender spoke out about suffering concussions in multiple football matches.

The 30-year-old disclosed in an interview with L'Equipe how his body had been "damaged" through heading the ball in games. He believes that insufficient awareness of head injuries has been detrimental to both himself and other footballers. Varane even recalled how he suffered a concussion during France’s 2014 World Cup last-16 clash against Nigeria, saying "if someone had spoken to me at that time, I don’t even know if I would have been able to respond".

“Raphael Varane’s comments are both brave and concerning,” said Luke Griggs, chief executive of Headway.

“We are increasingly seeing players from various sports follow medical advice by retiring early in order to protect their long-term brain health.

“A sportsperson’s career is short and it’s understandable that they would want to play every minute they can. But equally you’re a long time retired, and there appears to be a growing acceptance of the long-term implications of not looking after one’s brain during a playing career.

“We applaud Raphael for speaking out about the challenges footballers face when trying to balance their careers and long-term health. He is entirely correct about players having to take responsibility by admitting when they don’t feel right following a blow to the head.

“I’m sure there are many other professional players — past and present — that are harbouring similar concerns about their long-term brain health and I hope Raphael’s comments will encourage others to be more open and inquisitive when it comes to emerging research into the risks.”

Spurs board in discussions about selling stake in club

Tottenham Hotspur are “in discussions with prospective investors” about selling a stake in the club, chairman Daniel Levy has confirmed.

In a statement accompanying Tottenham’s financial results for the year ending June 30 2023, Levy said: “To capitalise on our long-term potential, to continue to invest in the teams and undertake future capital projects, the club requires a significant increase in its equity base. The board and its advisors, Rothschild & Co, are in discussions with prospective investors. Any recommended investment proposal would require the support of the club’s shareholders.”

Levy’s statement led to questions about whether Tottenham’s owners ENIC were about to sell up, but the club say the talks are over selling a stake, not a full-scale change of ownership.

Arteta 'very happy' at Arsenal, contract renewal talks yet to begin

Arteta 'very happy' at Arsenal, contract renewal talks yet to begin

Mikel Arteta has insisted he is ‘really happy’ at Arsenal despite contract renewal talks still yet to take place.

The Arsenal manager signed his most recent deal in 2022, which expires at the end of the 2024-25 season. Arteta was most recently linked to the upcoming vacancy at Barcelona with Xavi set to step down in the summer, but called the rumours "fake news" in January.

Asked whether there are any updates on his current deal, he said: “No.I am really happy. I still have a year on my contract, that is a long time in football. The players are happy, the club is happy, no issues.

“I am just focusing on the games and winning matches. That is the most important thing right now.”

Arteta also expanded on Bukayo Saka’s fitness after the winger withdrew from England duty in March and limped off after 78 minutes against Manchester City.

“He wasn’t with the national team because he was injured,” he said. “He [Saka] had a muscular issue and then he trained very little, then he played [against Man City] and we had to take him off because the risk of reinjuring the player was pretty high.

“Hopefully today he can train and he is good, he’s done it many times. He’s a really robust player and [hopefully] we can have him for the rest of the games.

"This was more of a muscular issue than a knock but this is a player that has a lot of contact. He has so much minutes under his belt in the last few seasons, and you have to manage him.”

Newcastle United will be without Kieran Trippier for around three weeks, while Tino Livramento and Miguel Almiron face a month on the sidelines.

Trippier, 33, was again absent from the squad for Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Everton having missed the previous four games in all competitions due to a calf injury.

Howe gave an update on the trio following Tuesday’s game, saying: “When you’ve got the glut of games that we have, it’s going to hurt us short-term. Miggy (Almiron) will be out around a month, we think, with a knee injury, Tino the same with an ankle injury. Kieran’s not ready to play yet, so he won’t be back for the Fulham game (on Saturday) definitely.”
