William D. McKeever, Jr. OBITUARY
William D. McKeever, Jr., age 87, died Wednesday, April 3rd in his home in Norfolk, VA. Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joyce Simmons McKeever; his son Patrick, his wife Tara and their children, Will, Owen, and Maggie; daughters, Deborah Patterson, her husband Derek and their children, Lilly and Luke, Kathleen Bilisoly, her husband Lindsay and their children Nash and his wife Audrey and Beck.
Bill was born in Brooklyn, New York. He cherished his memories of La Salle Academy in Manhattan and the University of Notre Dame. Bill had many careers, but his true love came when he earned his teaching degree at Virginia Wesleyan and then ODU. Teaching at Maury High School for nine years was a real joy. Bill loved all sports but baseball was his favorite.
Bill enjoyed his years with the Y’s Men, The Handball Guys, The Virginia Beach Exchange Club, The Norfolk Boat Club, and Festevents (pumping beer since 1983).
Joyce and Bill traveled extensively and were amazed by the many happenings that occurred on their trips.
The family cannot thank Sentara Hospice enough. Jason, Lorie, Mike, Phillip, and Hannah smoothed the road for him.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 8 at 11:00 A.M. at The Basilica of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception. A reception at the Freemason Harbour Condominiums will follow from 12:30 – 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers please send contributions to St. Mary’s Basilica Pantry, 232 Chapel St, Norfolk, VA 23504. H.D.
