Another child was allegedly holding the gun that discharged and killed a 5-year-old boy in Newaygo County, according to Michigan State Police Wednesday.

Troopers were called to a home on Bingham Avenue around 3:30 p.m. Monday for a report that a child died from a gunshot wound.

Before the incident, two 5- and 6-year-old boys found a gun in a bedroom of their grandparents' home, troopers said.

The 6-year-old had allegedly been handling the gun when it went off and killed the 5-year-old, according to state police.

Troopers have not identified either of the two boys.

As of Wednesday, the investigation is expected to be forwarded to the Newaygo County Prosecutor for review.
