Man fatally stabbed in Houston, case referred to grand jury

HOUSTON, Texas — A man was fatally stabbed at 3815 Mernard Street around 8:20 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, with the case now being referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The victim, identified as 48-year-old Marcus Burks, was found unresponsive with stab wounds when Houston Police Department (HPD) patrol officers responded to an assault in progress call. Burks was pronounced dead at the scene by Houston Fire Department paramedics.

A 46-year-old woman, who had a relationship with Burks, was detained at the scene. Preliminary investigations and her statements suggest that she stabbed Burks in self-defense during an argument. After consultation with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, it was decided that the case would be referred to a Harris County grand jury. The incident is recorded under Inc. #052953624.
