SPRINGDALE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — In honor of Child Abuse Awareness Month, northwest Arkansas is getting a better understanding of the impact one organization has on the community.

This evening the Children’s Safety Center in Springdale held a walkthrough experience to show the process that children and their families experience the moment they walk through the front door.

The center says the walkthrough is a way for them to get the word out to the community.

“It’s so important for the community to know that we’re here, that we’re a safe place that these kids can come to tell their story and get on the path to healing. We saw almost 700 kids last year, so unfortunately it does happen right here in Washington county, and so we really want the community to come out and learn how to protect our kids,” director of development Emily Rappe Fisher said.

The center says there are things you can do to help stop child abuse in the community.

One way is by attending free child abuse prevention trainings put on by the CSC.

There is one scheduled for the end of the month.
