The Emporia High School girls soccer team picked up a 10-0 victory over Topeka West on Tuesday night.
The win comes a night after a 2-2 tie in a makeup game at Wichita Southeast on Monday night.
Six different Lady Spartans scored in the win, with three of them recording multi-goal games. Emeil Bennett, Keilara Owens and Peyton Chanley all scored twice. Emma Swindle, Emersyn Johnson, Colee Butler and Karah Cooper also scored in the win.
Owens was glad to get her teammates involved.
“It felt really good to be out there and also helping my teammates get goals too, so it was a nice all-around win,” Owens said.
Head coach Oscar Macias was glad with how the girls bounced back after Monday night’s draw.
“It was a good response by the girls and a good performance,” Macias said. “We obviously had a lot of scoring, but I appreciate the way they scored. They scored as a team and they were building as a team from our backline to our midfield, and then to our attackers. So, it was a good team win.”
The Lady Spartans matched their win total from last season just nine games in. Macias wants his team to keep their focus on their next opponent.
“That’s a fun stat, but we can’t focus on that,” Macias said. “We need to stay hungry and our message to the girls is to not be satisfied with what we’ve done thus far. We have an entire half of the season left and we want them continue to play well.”
Emporia (6-2-1) will head back to Wichita to take on Wichita Classical at 5 p.m. on Thursday night.
