Horseheads boys lacrosse tops Corning, Elmira falls to Vestal

CORNING, N.Y. (WETM) – Section IV boys lacrosse took center stage, with two major matchups.

Horseheads and Vestal boys lacrosse picked up big wins, on Saturday. The Blue Raiders opened the day with a 7-5 victory over rival Corning. The Hawks led 2-0 early in the 1st quarter, thanks to goals from Joe Fucito and Dom DiNardo. Horseheads responded with the 1st of 2 goals from Griffin Stevens. In the 2nd, Colton Cox, Zachary Bennett, and Cody Dale pushed the Blue Raiders to a 4-2 edge by the half. In the 2nd half, Horseheads maintained their lead with consistent offense to seal the win.

In Vestal, the Elmira Express failed to capture their 2nd straight win. Off of the heels of their 1st ever victory over Corning, the Express fell to the Golden Bears 16-8. Vestal stormed out of the gates with goals from Braden McMahon and Samuel Baek. Elmira responded to the 5-0 deficit with scores from Landon Cook and Ryan Stukey, but the Golden Bears would keep pouring on the offense.

Corning will next head to Vestal for a Tuesday night contest at 7 p.m. The Express will look for a rebound win on Wednesday, as they travel to Binghamton for a 7:30 p.m. matchup. Horseheads is set to make the trip to Ithaca on Wednesday night at 7:15 p.m.
