UNION COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Union County Sheriff’s Office said four people were recently charged after an investigation into an overdose led to deputies seizing over one pound of fentanyl.

Deputies stated that the situation began on April 9 at around 9:25 p.m. when someone called 911 and reported that she was transporting someone suffering from a possible overdose to the Union area.

Deputies said they met with the caller and the victim at a Kangaroo convenience store in Monarch. According to deputies, EMS personnel treated the victim at the scene, but the victim passed away.

Deputies spoke with the caller, and she reported that the victim had gone unconscious at a residence along S. 6th Street in Lockhart.

Deputies explained that they searched the house in Lockhart and found 4,350 fentanyl pills, half a pound of marijuana, multiple firearms and equipment commonly used to produce fentanyl. They added that the fentanyl pills weighed a total of around 525 grams (1.16 pounds).

“Fentanyl is a problem not only in Union County but throughout the nation,” Union County Sheriff Jeff Bailey said. “This was a major operation here in Union and through the efforts of Patrol, Narcotic and Investigation divisions of the Sheriff’s Office we were able to take these drug dealers off the streets and save countless lives.
