Baton Rouge city-parish buildings, including Head Start, will be closed Wednesday due to a severe weather forecast, the Office of Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome announced Tuesday.
The East Baton Rouge Metro Council meeting planned for Wednesday will also be rescheduled for a later date.
"The public is encouraged to prepare their homes and families, monitor local weather reports, and make a plan to be inside a sturdy structure and off the roadways during any severe weather," the release says.
The National Weather Service predicts a moderate to high risk of severe weather in Baton Rouge on Wednesday, with the possibility of tornadoes and damaging wind gusts up to 60 to 70 mph.
Several Baton Rouge-area school districts announced closures or shifts to virtual instruction on Wednesday due to the weather.
