Ohio State Basketball is 'Great Job' Says Ex Villanova Coach Jay Wright
After firing Chris Holtmann earlier this month, the Ohio State Buckeyes have begun their search for a new head basketball coach.
Unfortunately for the Bucks, it won't be Jay Wright.
In a recent interview with the Columbus Dispatch, Wright revealed that, while he believes Ohio State is a great job, he himself will not be returning to coaching.
"It's a great job. It has an outstanding athletic department, great tradition and fertile recruiting ground," Wright said. "It would be a great job, but I'm definitely done coaching."
Wright, who won two national titles with Villanova, has consistently been in the conversation for open jobs since he retired in 2022. That said, after 21 years, he is content to stay in broadcasting.
Despite that, he still believes the Buckeyes to have a bright future, thanks in large part to their young talent. And as a result, he believes they will have no shortage of intriguing candidates.
"These young guys are going to be good," he said. "The situation is a statement on where college athletics are now. Chris was doing a good job, doing it the right way, and that's not acceptable anymore. Any program with a coach in his second year would gladly take what Ohio State has right now.
"Whoever gets the job will have an outstanding team next year. They will get great candidates."
The Buckeyes take on the Michigan State Spartans on Saturday in East Lansing, where Wright will be in attendance as a commentator for the game.
