The developer of a massive green power plant at the Stanlow refinery has named a new chief executive.

Rob Wallace will become CEO at EET Hydrogen Power, the company behind the EET group’s planned hydrogen-ready combined heat and power plant.

The plant is part of plans by EET, formerly known as Essar Oil UK, to cut emissions at Stanlow and turn the oil site into a “leading energy transition hub”.

Mr Wallace has spent 25 years in the energy sector, working with companies including Shell and Centrica. Most recently he worked at Irish energy group ESB, overseeing plant commissioning and commercialisation at Carrington Power Station and joining ESB’s Asset Development Team as hydrogen manager to deliver ESB’s Net Zero 2040 strategy.

EET says its planned hydrogen power plant “will play a significant role in reducing emissions at Stanlow”, initially delivering a 13% carbon dioxide emissions reduction.

EET is already building a £45m hydrogen-ready furnace at Stanlow - the first of its kind in the UK.

Rob Wallace, CEO of EET Hydrogen Power, said: “Through its ambitious hydrogen and industrial carbon capture projects, EET has made tremendous steps in recent years to become a leading example of innovation and decarbonisation in the UK I’m looking forward to working with the wider team to achieve these plans and support the region’s decarbonisation plans”

Tony Fountain, CEO of EET, said “We wish Rob a warm welcome to EET. He brings extensive knowledge on hydrogen and power development and will make a valuable contribution to successfully implementing our ambitious decarbonisation projects.”
