PRINCETON, W.Va. (WVVA) - A Princeton man has been given the maximum penalties in a child sexual abuse case.

Mercer County Prosecuting Attorney Brian K. Cochran said Joshua Moses Redden, 38, was sentenced today to 10 to 20 years in prison for sexual abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian, and an additional one to five years for strangulation.

Cochran said Circuit Court Judge William Sadler handed down the sentence and ordered the terms to run consecutive to each other and also ordered Redden to register as a sex offender for life.

Redden will also serve an additional 15 years on supervised release in the event he is released from prison.

“This was a violent sexual offense, so we all thought the maximum penalties were the appropriate sentences and are thankful that the Judge agreed,” Cochran said.

He also thanked the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department on its “excellent investigation” and also thanked his staff in the Prosecutor’s office.

“Our Sheriff’s Department really did an incredible job gathering all of the evidence in this case.”

Cochran further thanked the child victim and her family.

“This is a brave young lady who stood up for herself after a horrific crime was committed against her and there is no doubt in my mind that she’s going to do great things in her life,” he said.
