The LSU softball team had the chance to secure a series win over the Auburn Tigers in Sunday’s Game 3, but instead, coach Beth Torina’s team fell 3-1 as it dropped its second straight SEC series. This time, it came against a squad that entered the weekend just 3-9 in SEC play.
LSU struck first in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single from Raeleen Gutierrez, but Auburn would answer with a big fourth inning, in which it put up a three spot.
AU hit a two-RBI single and added a run on a double steal that brought a runner home. LSU’s best opportunity to answer came in the bottom of the seventh when it put runners at second and third with two outs.
However, it couldn’t capitalize as a pop-up ended the game.
LSU will return to the field at Tiger Park with a Tuesday night midweek game against UL-Lafayette before traveling to Knoxville for a three-game set against Tennessee, which begins Friday night.
