WIFE 4.COM. ASHEVILLE POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING AFTER A PERSON DIED IN A CRASH EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. POLICE SAY THAT HAPPENED JUST AFTER 2:30 A.M. ON INTERSTATE 40, NEAR MILE MARKER 54, IN THE WESTBOUND LANE. THEY SAY A TESLA WAS TRAVELING EAST IN THE WRONG DIRECTION ON I-40 WHEN THEY COLLIDED WITH A TRACTOR TRAILER THAT WAS TRAVELING WESTBOUND. The driver of a 2024 Tesla was killed over the weekend after driving the wrong way on a North Carolina interstate, police said. Rick Rice, with the Asheville Police Department, said the crash happened just after 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning on westbound Interstate 40 near mile marker 54. He said the Tesla driver, Andrew Dean Justiniano, 26, of Fletcher, was heading east in the wrong direction and collided with a 2022 Freightliner tractor-trailer that was heading west. Justiniano died from his injuries on scene, Rice said.He said the driver of the Freightliner was uninjured. I-40 West was closed for 5 1/2 hours while officers worked the scene, Rice said.
