Eighth-Ranked Blue Jays Cruise to 12-3 Win over McDaniel

Harris and Stevens Tally Three Hits Apiece

WESTMINSTER, MD – The Johns Hopkins baseball team concluded its three-game road trip with a Centennial Conference matchup against McDaniel Tuesday afternoon, racking up 13 hits en route to a 12-3 win over the Green Terror.

The Blue Jays (22-7, 10-1 Centennial) struck first in Tuesday's contest, scoring a run in the opening inning on a Shawn Steuerer sacrifice fly before a four-run second inning put Hopkins firmly in control.

Jacob Harris opened the second with his team-high third triple of the season, scoring on the next at bat after Jimmy Stevens ripped a double to for his first of two doubles on the day. A fielding error put two on with one out, setting up Alex Shane to rope one to left center that would score both Stevens and Dylan Whitney to make it 4-0. The Jays' final run of the inning came on yet another error, allowing Shane to score and putting Hopkins up 5-0.

After a quiet third inning it was Matthew Cooper launching his fourth homer of the year to extend the lead to 7-0 in the fourth before the shutout being tossed by Hopkins' Bearden Awadzi was finally broken by a two-run bottom half of the inning from McDaniel (16-12, 7-4 Centennial).

Up 7-2 through five, the Blue Jays put up another crooked number in the sixth inning to build their lead to its largest of the day, with the rally once again coming via Stevens' bat. Dillon Souvignier kicked off the frame with a single up the middle, with walks drawn by Steuerer and Harris loading the bases and setting up the senior to rip a bases-clearing double down the left field line to make it a 10-2 game.

The Green Terror stole a run back in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to seven, but a solo shot by Jimmy Nunez in the eighth — the first homer of his career — and a run on a passed ball in the ninth ballooned the lead back to nine before Nicolas Jos struck out the side to clinch the 12-3 victory.

The Blue Jays are back Wednesday, April 17 when they host Catholic in non-conference action, with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
