Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra will present the family concert “Lemony Snicket’s The Composer is Dead” at 3 p.m. today, April 6, at Nebraska Wesleyan University’s O’Donnell Auditorium, 51st and Huntington Avenue.
The production is based on the children’s book of the same title by Lemony Snicket, best known for his “Series of Unfortunate Events.” The program features guest actor William Shomos as the Inspector, who leads the audience as they interview every section of the orchestra to solve a musical mystery.
In this perplexing murder mystery, everyone seems to have a motive, everyone has an alibi and nearly everyone is a musical instrument. But the composer is still dead! The audience is invited to help LSO and narrator Shomos, Richard H. Larson Distinguished Professor of Music and Director of Opera at UNL’s Glenn Korff School of Music, solve the mystery by investigating the families of the orchestra in this humorous whodunit.

“This is a show for the whole family,” said Music Director Edward Polochick. “William Shomos is one of the most spectacular actors for this show and will have the audience in the palm of his hand.”
LSO also announced a collaboration with Lincoln City Libraries (LCL) called “Musical Bookworms,” which offers free concert tickets for families to attend this performance. LSO staff members will read at a story time at each Lincoln branch. To reserve free tickets to the concert, LCL patrons must check out designated music or Lemony Snicket books from any LCL location to receive a special bookmark that has information on how to reserve complimentary tickets. Tickets are limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Tickets for all LSO family concerts are priced at $10 for adults and $5 for children. Tickets can be ordered online at www.lincolnsymphony.com or by calling LSO at 402-476-2211.
