The Sunday, March 31 finale of AMC’s The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live is intended to be the end of the line for the limited series. But the door has been left open for more by the drama’s co-creators/executive producers, Scott M. Gimple, chief content officer for the franchise, Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick, and Danai Gurira, aka Michonne.

At the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour, the trio did their damnedest not to tip their hand. Almost in unison, Gurira responded to TVLine’s question about a possible Season 2 with “Can’t answer that” as Gimple said, “Let’s just be quiet on this one.”

“Well, I die in the last episode,” joked Lincoln.

“Oops,” responded his leading lady. “No.”

“Or he’s doing a little psyop, and maybe he actually does,” Gimple suggested. “I would say anything is possible, even if Rick dies in the last episode. Anything is possible.

“We’re focused on this one right now,” he added, “but this one came together in a really amazing way where there were all sorts of plans, and the world changed, so we altered those plans and wound up with something we really liked.”

More recently, Gurira discussed with our sister site The Hollywood Reporter’s TV’s Top 5 podcast the notion of uniting all of the series in the franchise in a kind of Avengers-style team-up. “I will say this,” she allowed. “Anything’s possible. Anything’s possible. We definitely poured all we had into making this a very fulfilling experience for people, because we know people waited for it a very long time…

“Getting it to this point,” she continued, “was a labor of love.” (With reporting by Matt Webb Mitovich)

Sounds to us like it ain’t over till it’s over. Ahead of Sunday’s finale (at 9/8c), drop your thoughts on the prospect of more “Richonne” in the comments.
