Students win medals at SkillsUSA competition

MARSHFIELD, Wis. -- (WAOW) Students from Marshfield High School took home several medals at the SkillsUSA competition in Madison, and I caught up with some of the medalists as they showed the skills that helped them win.

The Tigers' SkillsUSA team brought home gold medals in welding, where they also won silver, and the commercial drone category. The team headed to the state capitol to show those skills and others.

Drone team Trevor Meyer and Owen Siegel placed second in last year's competition, and said this year, it was now or never. Meyer said, "If we didn't do good this year, we didn't really have next year because we're seniors. It's good to know that we placed first and we go to nationals so we can at least experience that."

The gold medalists said they were thrilled to advance to nationals, which will be held in Atlanta, Georgia in June.
