PINE TOWNSHIP — No one was injured in a fire Monday evening that tore through a house in rural Pine Township, but the family lost all their belongings, it was reported Tuesday.
The residents of the home are identified in an online fundraiser as Jessica and Ryan Reagor and their son Drew.
The Chesterton Fire Department, which came to the assistance of Pine Township, reported being called out around 6:20 p.m. Monday to 1367 N. County Road 375 East.
Firefighters said they arrived to find the back deck destroyed and portions of the rear of the house burned away. Firefighters were ordered out of the structure as the roof began to collapse.
Flames raged through the roof as firefighters from several area departments attempted to fight back with water. Smoke from the blaze was visible many miles away across the rural area.
"We are working on gathering resources to support our employees as we grieve and work our way through this tragic loss," police said.
According to the online fundraiser, the family was alerted by a home smoke alarm system and within moments, the entire structure was engulfed in flames.
"Luckily, no one was injured, but they lost all their belongings. It is going to take a lot to help get them back on their feet after this devastating loss."
The family is reportedly very involved in the Duneland community.
The accused reportedly ran past the woman, who found her daughter in the bedroom closet crying and only partially clothed.
"If you know any of them, you know what a wonderful family they are and the significant hardships they have endured recently," according to the fundraiser.
Contributions for the family totaled nearly $9,000 by late Tuesday morning.

“There was good reason for that at the time,” he said. “People weren’t very nice although no one had a right to call me names or spit on me or anything. That just shouldn’t have happened. It still bothers me all these years later.”
“I’m not ashamed of anything that me and those other soldiers did in Vietnam. I’m NOT,” Raymond Craven said with conviction. “But I still don’t talk about it much.”
