PORTER — A semi-trailer truck this week struck and damaged a railroad bridge that passes over U.S. 20, which fouled traffic for a short time to allow for repairs, according to police.
The accused admitted to have been drinking alcohol and was found to have a blood-alcohol level of 0.088, which exceeds the legal limit for driving of 0.08, police said.
The truck struck the underside of the Norfolk Southern railroad bridge near Beam Street around 2 p.m. Monday, Porter police said.
"Two lanes of traffic on U.S. 20 near Beam Street were closed so the bridge could be inspected and repaired," according to police.
