N. WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. — Businesses along Route 309 in North Whitehall Township are getting ready for some serious traffic issues this weekend.

Former President Donald Trump is planning to visit the area, and when his convoy comes through, Route 309 will be blocked in both directions. It was rush hour at the Red Tomato Restaurant when we stopped by, but owner Shaadi Elias said he's thinking about a different kind of traffic.

"This whole week we've been planning out to see what our schedule is going to be like the rest of the week," said Elias.

He's planning for a visit from former President Donald Trump. Trump is headed for the Schnecksville Fire Hall on Saturday, but to get there State Police are planning to shut down Route 309, the only way to get to the Red Tomato.

"We're interested to see how it's going to affect business. I mean we're here seven days a week. Saturday is obviously a busy day," said Elias.

Busy for walk-ins, and for deliveries.

"We do deliver from open to close, and our drivers are on the road the entire day, so hopefully it doesn't affect business too much," said Elias.

State Police tell us the delays could start as early as 3 p.m. on Saturday, and aren't guaranteed to end until 9 p.m. Route 22, Route 309, and Old Packhouse Rd. will all get shut down in both directions at some point. Elias hopes customers are understanding.

"I don't think that customers will be that mad that we can't get deliveries out for certain times, but if we can't get you food on Saturday, we'll get you guys on Sunday," said Elias.

And just like the guys already selling merchandise on the side of 309, Elias said he's hoping for a glimpse of the former President.

"If he wants to stop by and try the best pizza on 309, he's more than welcome to come by," said Elias.
