NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The girlfriend of 20-year-old Chazan Page, said she was right next to him when the hit-and-run crash happened that took the life of the senior offensive lineman at Tennessee State University.

Jayda Jernigan said they were walking inches away from each other. Jernigan, 19, said the two were trying to cross through an intersection of Gallatin Pike when a car came speeding towards them.

“I didn’t realize what happened until I looked over my shoulder and he wasn’t there,” Jernigan said.

Just like that, in a matter of seconds, Jernigan said dozens of lives were forever changed.

“He was walking me and my friend across the street to her car,” Jernigan said.

They were walking across the road Sunday morning when their hearts dropped.

“A car was going at least a hundred miles per hour. I felt a lot of force and then I just saw him go into the air and then come back down on the ground. He pushed me out of the way and then he got hit,” Jernigan said.

And before she could even put together what had just happened.

“He sped off after that he didn’t stop or anything so we couldn’t get a license plate or anything,” Jernigan said.

She said it looked like either a red SUV or a Sedan.

“I looked over and people were screaming, and it was a whole bunch of commotion going on,” Jernigan said.

Paramedics rushed Page to Skyline Medical Center where doctors pronounced him dead that Sunday night.

“Everybody knows that me and Chazan are around each other 24/7, if you see him, you see me and vice versa. He was very carrying, he was sweet, he made sure everybody was good and made sure I was good,” Jernigan said.

Showing love for people until the very end.

“I know his parents and I know that’s what they would want him to do, that’s how he was raised,” Jernigan said.

A man many said will be forever missed. Police are asking people to keep an eye out for a significantly damaged red SUV or sedan.
