Brendan Fraser

Brendan Fraser (December 3, 1968) is an American actor and Oscar winner from Indianapolis, Indiana. His acting career took off in 1992 with the releases of high school comedy "Encino Man" and the drama "School Ties," both of which showed off his comedic and dramatic chops. A role in 1997's "George of the Jungle" made Fraser popular among family audiences, while landing the part of adventurer Rick O'Connell in "The Mummy" (1999) made him a worldwide star. Fraser reprised the role of  Rick O'Connell in two sequels: "The Mummy Returns" (2001) and "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" (2008). His dramatic roles continued with "Gods and Monsters" (1998), "The Quiet American" (2002) and "Crash" (2004), the latter of which won him a Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding cast in a motion picture. The film went on to win the Academy Award for best picture.

While films such as "Journey to the Center of the Earth" (2008) were modest hits, Fraser's star power somewhat waned in the mid-aughts and he faced fallout in Hollywood from accusing Philip Beck, the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association at the time, of sexual assault. His acting career started to rebound when he pivoted to television with roles on FX's "Trust" (2018) and HBO Max's "Doom Patrol" (2019-2023), and he staged a full-fledged comeback with his performance in Darren Aronofsky's "The Whale" (2022), which won Fraser the Academy Award for best actor.
