Columbia officer arrested and terminated after domestic violence incident

An officer with the Columbia Police Department has been terminated and is now behind bars for domestic violence, according to the Richland County Sheriff's Department.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – An officer with the Columbia Police Department has been terminated and is now behind bars for domestic violence, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

On Saturday, April 13th, deputies responded to the apartments located on 131 Rope Pond. On scene deputies say further investigation determined that, following a verbal altercation, the man attempted to choke the woman, leaving minor injuries around her neck.

The man is identified as Efrain Galdamez, a Columbia Police Department officer. Galdamez was arrested and charged with domestic violence, third degree.

According to the Columbia Police Department, he’s been employed since January 2023 and was terminated following the incident.
