BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A fire to a semi truck carrying cardboard caused major traffic delays beginning Thursday afternoon lasting in early Friday along northbound lanes of Interstate 5 near Grapevine Road.

All lanes of northbound I-5 near Grapevine Road reopened at around 7 a.m. Friday, California Highway Patrol in Fort Tejon said.

The fire was reported at around 1:53 p.m. Thursday in northbound lanes just north of Grapevine Road, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Traffic Incident Information Page. The truck was carrying 23,000 pounds of cardboard products.

Fire spread to the cab and trailer and it took hours for crews to remove the heavily damaged trailer, officials said. The delays caused major delays for drivers through the Grapevine as the backup went for miles into Gorman.
