Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse football will host Colorado State transfer wide receiver Justus Ross-Simmons this weekend as it closes spring ball, according to a report by ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Thamel cited Ross-Simmons’ agent, Josh Katz of Catamount Sports.

Ross-Simmons spent two seasons at Colorado State and appeared in 24 games as its No. 2 wide receiver. He had 71 total receptions, nearly doubling his catches from his freshman (26) to sophomore year (45), and amassed 1,148 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

Ross-Simmons has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Colorado State coach Jay Norvell began his remarks to reporters Saturday following his team’s scrimmage by addressing Ross-Simmons’ absence.

“In this era of NIL, who knows what’s behind all this stuff, but he will no longer be part of our team moving forward,” Norvell said.

A native of Rochester, New York, Ross-Simmons (6-foot-3, 205 pounds) played for East High School before transferring to Inglewood High School in California.

He was a three-star out of high school in the Class of 2021 and had offers from Nevada State and Colorado State, ultimately choosing the latter after a brief commitment to the former.

Ross-Simmons is also a three-star transfer per the 247Sports Composite. Thamel’s report said he has offers from Vanderbilt, USF, Liberty, Coastal Carolina and Georgia State.

New Orange head coach Fran Brown brought two wide receivers in from Georgia during the first transfer portal window this offseason. Both have poised themselves as first-string targets during spring ball.

Syracuse has nine other rostered wide receivers. Four are returners who have been contributors in previous seasons but never wide receiver No. 1 in receiving yards.

The second transfer portal window opened Monday and closes April 30.
