STL Right Fielder #3

Dylan Carlson (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday.

The Redbirds will have an outfield of Carlson, Jordan Walker and Victor Scott, which is pretty fun. Carlson has been out all year with his shoulder injury, but if everything goes well during his rehab assignment in Triple-A, he should be back with the Cardinals in the early portion of May.
Alec Burleson

STL Right Fielder #41

Alec Burleson is starting at first base and hitting sixth for the Cardinals on Monday.

Paul Goldschmidt is in the lineup as the DH on Monday, but it’s the first time Goldschmidt has done anything but play 1B this year. As a result, it seems as though Burleson is the team’s backup first baseman, which gives him added value for his ability to move around the field. The 25-year-old is hitting .263/.323/.351 on the team with one home run and five RBI in 62 plate appearances. With Goldschmidt struggling, perhaps Burleson could earn a few more chances in the near future.
Lance Lynn

STL Starting Pitcher #31

Lance Lynn allowed one run over five innings Sunday in a no-decision versus the Mets.

Lynn struck out three and walked three today. He has a 2.64 ERA, but he’s doing it with his worst strikeout rate since 2017 and his highest walk rate since 2018. Odds are that he’s going to have some difficulties going forward.
Nolan Arenado

STL Third Baseman #28

Nolan Arenado finished 0-for-5 in the loss to the Mets on Sunday, snapping a 25-game on-base streak.

Arenado struck out once and failed to hit a ball hard in his other four attempts. Up with one out and a man on third in the top of the 11th, he hit a 200-foot fly that turned into a double play because Willson Contreras forgot how many outs there were. Arenado has just one homer this year. His hard-hit rate is only 27%. He’s doing what he can with a .271 average and a .328 OBP, but the power just isn’t there right now.
Dylan Carlson

Dylan Carlson (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis either Tuesday or Wednesday.

That according to Cardinals manager Oli Marmol. The outfielder hasn’t been able to play games in 2024 because of his shoulder injury, but assuming he’s able to begin that rehab assignment with Memphis in the coming days, he should be an outfield option for the Cards in the coming weeks, if not days.

Alec Burleson is not in the lineup for Sunday’s game against the Mets.

Burleson will take a seat against southpaw Jose Quintana for the series finale. Willson Contreras is lined up as the designated hitter with Ivan Herrera getting a start behind the plate.

STL First Baseman #46

Paul Goldschmidt went 2-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, two RBI, and a stolen base to lead the Cardinals to a 7-4 win over the Mets.

Goldschmidt seems to be warming up at the plate. He collected two hits on Saturday for his third multi-hit game in his last five contests. Goldschmidt drove in two runs with a double in the first inning and scored on a base hit by Masyn Winn. He singled in the fifth and swiped second for his first stolen base of the season before scoring on a balk. The 36-year-old first baseman is slashing .214/.306/.296 with two homers and 11 RBI across 113 plate appearances.
Ryan Helsley

STL Relief Pitcher #56

Ryan Helsley struck out one batter in a scoreless ninth inning to record the save against the Mets on Saturday.

Helsley was summoned to close out the game with a three-run lead in the ninth inning. He struck out the first batter, but allowed two singles and a walk to load the bases with two outs before getting Francisco Lindor to fly out to end the game. The 29-year-old right-hander is up to nine saves with a 1.80 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and a 17/2 K/BB ratio across 15 innings.
Sonny Gray

STL Starting Pitcher #54

Sonny Gray allowed four runs -- one earned -- with nine strikeouts over six innings in a win over the Mets on Saturday.

Gray had worked through four scoreless innings before Brandon Nimmo drove in two on a base hit in the fifth. Pete Alonso followed with a two-run homer to make it four runs in the frame. Though, only one run was charged as an earned run to Gray after an error allowed the leadoff man to reach. The 34-year-old right-hander induced 15 whiffs to strike out nine batters. He’ll take an excellent 1.16 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and a 32/4 K/BB ratio across 23 1/3 innings into a start against the White Sox in St. Louis on Friday.
Sem Robberse

STL Starting Pitcher #61

Cardinals RHP prospect Sem Robberse struck out six and allowed two runs over seven innings on Friday for Triple-A Memphis.

Robberse boasts the second-lowest ERA (1.82) in the International League through five starts after spinning another gem on Friday evening for Triple-A Memphis. He generated 14 swinging strikes and finished with a 32 percent CSW. The 22-year-old righty doesn’t throw hard, but he’s been effective so far in the upper minors since coming over last year in the Jordan Hicks deal with the Blue Jays.
