Kat Dennings will star as Tim Allen's daughter in the new sitcom Shifting Gears about three generations living in one house
Kat Dennings is marking her return to broadcast TV with a notable sitcom dad.
The actress, 37, will star as the daughter of Tim Allen's character in ABC's upcoming multi-camera comedy pilot with the working title Shifting Gears, according to Deadline.
She will also serve as a producer on the 20th Television production.
Allen, 70, stars as Matt, 'the stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop,' Deadline reports.
'When Matt's estranged daughter Riley (Dennings) and her teenage kids move into his house, the real restoration begins,' the plot synopsis reads.

'Dennings' Riley butted heads with her father growing up and left to marry the boyfriend he hated.
'Now divorced, Riley's forced to move back home with two kids, hoping she and her dad can make it work this time.'
The series is written by Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully, who also serve as executive producers along with Last Man Standing EPs Allen, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker and Rick Messina.
Allen's return to ABC comes after he starred on Home Improvement (1991-1999) and Last Man Standing (2011-2021).
In recent months, Allen has teased a reprisal of Tim 'The Toolman' Taylor in a potential reboot of Home Improvement.
His former onscreen wife Patricia Richardson recently said Allen has been 'lying to people' about her involvement as he 'never asked' her.
At the same studio, the actor recently reprised his role from The Santa Claus movies for season 2 of The Santa Clauses on Disney+.
Dennings previously starred as Max for the six-season run of 2 Broke Girls on CBS from 2011 to 2017.
