GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) — A Greeneville man was charged with aggravated assault after an alleged road rage incident on Sunday.

According to a report from the Greeneville Police Department, an officer responded to a road rage incident on Tusculum Boulevard near Austin Street just before 9 p.m.

Upon arrival, a woman told police she was traveling on Snapps Ferry Road towards Tusculum Boulevard when a black Chevy Silverado truck came up behind her, tailgating and revving its engine.

The woman stated the truck almost rear-ended her vehicle at the intersection near Austin Street, according to the report. When the woman looked back, she reportedly saw the driver had opened his truck door.

The woman walked towards the truck and the driver, identified by the GPD as Nathan Cox, asked if she could “go a little faster.” Cox then racked a black handgun that he was holding near his lap, the report stated.

The woman stated she was calling the police and Cox reportedly fled the scene.

Cox’s vehicle was later found driving westbound on East Andrew Johnson Highway near Justis Drive. A GPD officer conducted a traffic stop on the truck and identified the driver as Cox.

Cox reportedly told police he did not have a gun due to being on probation.

A Glock 42 handgun, one gram of marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia were found in the truck, the report stated.

Cox was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, simple possession/casual exchange and unlawful drug paraphernalia.
