Two people are hospitalized, including one of the shooters.

FLINT, Mich. (WJRT) - Gunshots were reported at the MTA station in downtown Flint on Tuesday morning, leading to a temporary lockdown at the University of Michigan-Flint.

Flint Police Chief Terence Green said two men got into an altercation in another city. They continued fighting when they arrived at the bus terminal in Flint and it escalated into gunfire.

Investigators say both men were firing gunshots at each other after they got off the bus. One of the alleged shooters, a man in his 30s, was hospitalized in critical condition while the other fled the scene before police arrived.

"They were engaged in an altercation at that location, caught the bus from that location, were dropped off here at the MTA bus station," said Flint Police Chief Terence Green.

According to Flint Police Chief Terence Green, the two men were continuing a fight that started in Livingston County.

Authorities were still looking for the second shooter Tuesday afternoon, but no information was released about his identity.

Green said a woman in her 20s was grazed by a bullet, which caused a non-life-threatening injury. She was listed in stable condition at an area hospital.

The Happy's Pizza restaurant next to the scene of the fight suffered some window damage.

Two people were injured when police say two men who got into an argument elsewhere fired gunshots at each other at the MTA bus terminal in downtown Flint.

Police are reviewing surveillance camera footage from the MTA and surrounding businesses showing the shootout. Green said the incident was isolated and no longer presents an active threat to the community.

The MTA issued a statement on Facebook shortly after the incident saying the bus terminal at Second and Harrison streets was closed while the police investigation continued.

Bus service will be transferred to the former Flint Central High School campus on Crapo Street temporarily until authorities allow bus service to return to the MTA station. Operations at the downtown terminal was expected to resume Tuesday afternoon.

The U of M-Flint campus went on lockdown temporarily moments after the shooting. Campus safety officials lifted the lockdown after about a half hour at 8:42 a.m., but students and staff were asked to avoid the scene nearby.

Tuesday's incident comes about 10 months after a homicide was reported inside the MTA terminal on June 1, 2023. Police say 39-year-old Stand "Face" Robinson shot and killed 23-year-old Jamil Kaine, who was working at a store inside the bus station.

Robinson is charged with first-degree murder and other weapons crimes. Legal proceedings against him were halted because he was found incompetent to stand trial, according to Genesee County District Court records.
