Authorities have released the name of the driver killed in a fiery tanker truck crash on Interstate 22 in Walker County.

Alabama State Troopers identified the fatality victim as Stephen A. Zmolek Jr. He was 40 and lived in Boaz.

Senior Trooper Cody Farrar said Zmolek was driving a Freightliner Cascadia that left the road, overturned, and caught fire. He was transporting diesel fuel.

Zmolek was pronounced dead on the scene.

The wreck happened at 10:10 a.m. Tuesday near the 49-mile marker, near the Carbon Hill exit.

The crash shut down that portion of the interstate for much of the day. Troopers announced about 8:30 p.m. that all lanes were back open.

The investigation is ongoing.
