19-year-old motorcyclist killed in Whiteland crash; 62-year-old man arrested for possible intoxication

The incident happened Tuesday around 9:30 p.m. on North U.S. 31 and Country Wood Drive, near Tracy Road.

WHITELAND, Ind. — A 19-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday night in Whiteland.

The Whiteland Police Department responded to the crash on North U.S. 31 and Country Wood Drive, near Tracy Road, around 9:30 p.m. April 16.

Police identified the victim in the crash as Drew Shrader, from Shelbyville.

According to police, the 19-year-old motorcyclist was going north on U.S. 31 when a 62-year-old New Whiteland man driving a truck tried to cross traffic in front of the motorcycle. Police said the motorcyclist was unable to stop and hit the truck.

Police said the New Whiteland man was not injured in the crash, and officers took him to the Whiteland police station, where he was subsequently arrested for possible intoxication while operating a vehicle causing death.

Police believe alcohol and/or speed were factors in the crash.
