One dead after motorcycle and van collision in Leander

A motorcycle rider was killed in a collision with a van on Monday evening in Leander, according to police.

The incident occurred at approximately 6:12 p.m. near the intersection of US 183 and Sheila Drive.

Police said Brendan Kayle Johnson, 29, of Leander, was pronounced dead at the scene after his Honda motorcycle struck the left rear side of a Chevrolet van attempting to turn left onto US 183 from Sheila Drive.

The driver of the van remained on the scene and cooperated with law enforcement. Police cited the van driver for failure to yield right of way while turning left.

The Leander Police Collision Reconstruction Team is currently investigating and reconstructing the fatal crash. Authorities are asking witnesses or anyone with dash camera footage of the incident to contact Cpl. Gonzalez at 512-528-2800 or cgonzalez@leandertx.gov.
