The No. 11 Virginia women’s lacrosse team came from behind to pull out a thrilling 13-12 overtime win over No. 3 Boston College on Saturday at Klöckner Stadium.
Freshmen Kate Galica and Madison Alaimo came through in the clutch for the Cavaliers (12-3, 5-3 ACC), combining for seven points and accounting for each of Virginia’s last three goals, including the overtime winner from Alaimo.
Galica, who scored two seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime, led UVa with three goals, while Alaimo (two goals, two assists) contributed four points. Kate Miller, Kiki Shaw and Jenna Dinardo scored two goals apiece, while Katia Carnevale (one goal, two assists), Mackenzie Hoeg (one goal) and Abby Manalang (one assist) also made it on the score sheet.
Mel Josephson was strong in goal, making six first-half saves to help Virginia build a five-goal cushion before Boston College (12-3, 6-2 ACC) rallied. Josephson ended the game with 10 saves, marking her eighth double-digit save performance.

Men’s tennis goes unbeaten in ACC play
The No. 3 Virginia men’s tennis team closed out the regular season with a 7-0 win over Georgia Tech on Saturday at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex in Atlanta.
The Cavaliers (20-4, 12-0 ACC) won the doubles point and took all six singles courts in straight sets in the final match of the regular season. With the victory, Virginia closed out its fourth straight 12-0 run through the ACC slate. It is the 17th ACC regular season title in program history and the 14th time the Hoos have gone undefeated in conference play.
Women’s tennis shares ACC title with Tar Heels
The No. 5 Virginia women’s tennis team closed out the regular season with a 4-2 victory over No. 23 Florida State (15-7, 9-4 ACC) on Sunday at the Boar’s Head Resort.
With the victory, the Cavaliers (20-3, 12-1 ACC) finished tied for first place in the final conference standings with North Carolina. Due to a head-to-head tiebreaker, UNC will be the No. 1 seed in the ACC Tournament with UVa earning the No. 2 seed, but both share the regular-season title.
Grad student Natasha Subhash clinched Sunday’s victory for the Cavaliers. She was one of three players honored before the match in the annual Senior Day celebration.
Softball walks off with a series win over Wolfpack
The Virginia softball team walked off with a 3-2 win over NC State on Sunday at Palmer Park. The Cavaliers (28-13, 11-7 ACC) grabbed their fifth series win in ACC play this season. In the seventh inning, Leah Boggs laid down a bunt to move a runner from first to third and Abby Weaver’s sac fly brought home the game-winning run.
Eden Bigham (13-6) picked up the win for UVa after allowing two runs on four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in the complete-game effort. It was the second complete game of the weekend for Bigham, who also shut out the Wolfpack in the series opener.
Rowing hosts UVa Invite
The No. 11 Virginia rowing team concluded racing at the UVa Invite on Sunday with a win in the Third Varsity Eight against No. 17 Oregon State at Lake Monticello. UVa raced against No. 1 Stanford and No. 5 Yale on Saturday and had four races against No. 4 Cal on Sunday.
The Cavaliers’ 3V8 topped the Beavers 7:10.8-7:28.6 in Virginia’s last race of the weekend. Cal posted wins over UVa in the Varsity Eight, Varsity Four, Second Varsity Four and Second Varsity Eight. No. 1 Stanford won all five races against UVa and Yale on Saturday.
Frasier wins decathlon at Virginia Grand Prix
David Frasier won the men’s decathlon at the Virginia Grand Prix, finishing with 7,055 points. Celia Rifaterra won the women’s high jump after clearing 1.79m/5-10.50 on her second attempt at the height, while Janae Profit threw a season-best 50.34m/165-2 in the women’s discus to best the competition by nearly a meter.
In the shot put, Profit threw a personal-best 16.11m/52-10.25 to win the competition. Jordan Hardy earned first place in the women’s long jump with a mark of 5.99m/19-8 (+0.3). Heldi Valikaj won the men’s long jump with a season-best 7.44m/24-5 (+2.2).
Emily Alexandru won the women’s 400 hurdles in a season-best 59.71. Alex Sherman and Evans White IV went 1-2 in the men’s 400, crossing the line in 47.67 and 48.03, respectively. The quartet of Angel Parenchuk, Emily Alexandru, Alahna Sabbahkan and Tori Daniels combined to win the women’s 4x400 relay in a time of 3:46.28, while the men’s 4x400 relay finished runner-up in a time of 3:13.91.
