52-year-old trapped, critically injured in house fire on Indy's east side

The incident happened around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 5800 block of Julian Avenue, near East Washington Street and South Arlington Avenue.

INDIANAPOLIS — One person is in critical condition after they were trapped in a fire at a home on the east side of Indianapolis Tuesday morning.

At 9:30 a.m. April 16, Indianapolis Fire Department crews responded to a report of a fire at a single-story home in the 5800 block of Julian Avenue, near East Washington Street and South Arlington Avenue.

In the house, first responders found a 52-year-old man with critical injuries who was quickly taken to a local hospital. IFD says one firefighter was slightly injured and a neighbor was checked at the scene for possible smoke inhalation.

Firefighters also found three dogs inside, one of which died in the fire.

According to IFD, there were no working smoke alarms in the house.

This is an ongoing investigation.
