‘Scammer left me with £23,000 Monzo loan’

The Times consumer champion helps a victim of bank fraud and a despairing dad whose sons’ car insurance suddenly doubled

In February I got an email claiming to be from Evri asking me to pay for a parcel delivery. I was expecting a package, so I clicked on the link and paid with my Monzo card. I wasn’t charged in the end, which I thought was due to my internet connection, and decided to try again later.

On the bus to work I got a call from someone called Andy, who knew my name and said he worked for Monzo’s fraud team. He warned me that there had been suspicious activity on my account and asked whether I’d had any spam messages recently, such as one pretending to be from a delivery company.
