Summit Career Center (SCC) is accepting applications for its next career training program in Missoula through April 22. Classes begin Monday, May 6.

The center offers Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Phlebotomy, Pharmacy Technician, Dental Assistant, Medical Billing and Coding, and other healthcare programs. Other popular curriculums include IT Specialist, CDL, Bookkeeping, and Construction Trades.

According to Executive Director Jacqueline Stevens, Summit Career Center meets a need in Missoula and Ravalli counties, training motivated workers for jobs that employers need help filling: “We continue to add new programs as jobs become available. We’re constantly watching the employment market. As it changes, we adapt to offer new fields of study.”

SCC provides motivated adults, age 18 and older, with free training to become employed. The six-month program includes six weeks of personal skill development followed by career-specific training, and then career launch. Coaching and evaluation take place throughout, as well as mentoring from program graduates and area business leaders.

“The program often helps them get higher pay because they have an accredited certification when they graduate,” Stevens says. “It can also be the route to quicker promotions.”

SCC teaches its student leaders “soft skills” including how to present themselves confidently, prepare and interview for jobs, and handle themselves in the workplace. The center instills in its students a sound work ethic through program requirements for attendance, accountability, and active participation. “These are skills,” Stevens says, “that make them invaluable to their employers, not just for their next job, but for the rest of their lives.”

Specific career options are numerous but must be for jobs that are available in Missoula and Ravalli counties, according to Stevens. Missoula classes will be offered at 310 South Curtis Street. Summit Career also offers its program in Stevensville, with classes meeting at the Fort Owen Ranch.

A faith-based nonprofit, SCC serves the area’s most vulnerable individuals. Financial support from the Gianforte Family Foundation, private donors, and other Montana nonprofit organizations enables the center to offer tuition-free career training to its students.

“Education and job preparation are vital to individuals and families across Montana,” according to Gianforte Family Foundation Executive Director Catherine Koenen. “We’re pleased to support the opportunities Summit Career Center offers people who are ready to start a new career.”
